SCOOP! Korg DS-10 “3DS edition” is in the air!
Now I’m proud of this one. My 1st SCOOP just a few weeks after the launch of this website. Read ABOUT 3DHG if you haven’t yet.
Two years ago I saw a video clip about the Korg DS-10 software for the DS. That software emulates some Korg synthesizers. Without being experienced in manipulating that kind of software I was however amazed at all the cool sounds you could get out of the DS console. Younger, I always dreamed of having a synthesizer, I enjoyed listening of SID files from the good old C-64, some TB-303 sounds. But anyway, let’s go back on the subject.
A year after DS-10 launch was announced the DS-10 Plus. It doubled the amount of synth and drum machines and added some minor new features for the standard DS.
There is a short clip demonstrating the DS-10 Plus:
Now that the 3DS is out in Japan I was curious to know if the DS-10 Plus was compatible on the 3DS as the 3DS is backward compatible with previous consoles. After looking to get in touch with Korg I decided to look for Nobuyoshi Sano, the designer and producer of the DS-10. Guess what, I found him on twitter so why not send a quick tweet and ask. A few minutes after when I came back and sit at the computer I was quite surprised with a reply and an answer:
@3DHandheld absolutely you can play DS-10+ on 3DS but something like “3DS-10” is in the air
Hardware specifications of the 3DS are not fully disclosed yet so it remains to be seen what the 3DS version will add to the current DS-10, but it’s nice to see that developement is still going on for such specialized piece of software.

UPDATE: after a few hours and 2 happy users tweeting their happiness to M. Sano, he made a new statement:
But I still have the feeling it’s in the air… it’s just normal at this time to not disclose too much about it. Usual business practice. |
